Woman caught with AK-47 hidden in garri sack.
Operatives of the Special Tactical Squad (STS) have arrested a 30-year-old woman, Hauwa Yusuf, for attempting to transport an AK-47 rifle and four magazines hidden inside a sack of garri. The arrest took place during a stop-and-search operation on the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway.
Arrest Details:
- Suspect: Hauwa Yusuf, 30, from Dutsin-Ma LGA, Katsina State.
- Location: Abuja-Kaduna Expressway.
- Items Recovered: One AK-47 rifle and four AK magazines concealed in a garri sack.
- Intended Destination: The arms were to be delivered to the Danum Madam Camp in Katsina State.
Suspect’s Claims: Hauwa Yusuf claimed she was unaware that the sack contained a weapon, stating she had been asked to transport millet and was paid ₦130,000 for the task. She admitted to being apprehensive upon discovering the weapon but proceeded with the delivery anyway.
Bandit Connection: The suspect revealed during interrogation that the arms were meant for Aminu Basullube, a notorious bandit known for terrorizing Katsina State. Basullube allegedly instructed her to collect the weapons from Lafia, Nasarawa State, and deliver them to his camp.
Additional Arrests: In a related operation, the police arrested Musa Saidu, a suspected cattle rustler operating under the leadership of a gang commander named Haruna in Birnin Gwari forest, Kaduna State. Saidu confessed to participating in criminal activities, including the purchase of twelve cows and multiple motorcycles with the proceeds from cattle rustling. He explained that he turned to cattle rustling after his own cattle were stolen, using the ill-gotten gains to fund his lavish lifestyle.
Saidu was eventually arrested after returning to his home village in Kaduna to enjoy the proceeds from his criminal activities. He admitted that while he knew cattle rustling was illegal, he engaged in it as revenge for the theft of his cattle.
