Tinubu Pushes for Faster Launch of Direct Brazil Flights.
President Bola Tinubu has urged Carlos Jose Areias, the newly appointed Brazilian Ambassador to Nigeria, to prioritize establishing direct flights between Nigeria and Brazil. This initiative is part of the broader efforts to strengthen bilateral ties and economic cooperation between the two nations. During a meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Tinubu reiterated his commitment to advancing shared priorities discussed with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, especially in the areas of trade and investment. The President emphasized the historical and cultural connections between the countries, encouraging Brazil to explore investment opportunities in Nigeria, particularly in the agricultural sector. The move to establish direct flights is seen as a crucial step in enhancing trade relations, which once saw a trade volume of $10 billion, and further integrating both nations’ economies. As Brazil assumes the G20 presidency in 2024, Tinubu looks forward to collaborating on global issues, including food security, as outlined in Brazil’s proposal for the Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty.
