On Thursday evening, gunmen reportedly shot and murdered an Inspector of Police while abducting two Chinese nationals at Quarry Camp in Cross River’s Akamkpa Local Government Area.

SP Nelson Okpabi, the Police Public Relations Officer in Charge of Zone 6, verified the event in a statement published in Calabar and made accessible to the media on Friday.

According to the statement, the armed individuals, who purportedly wore military camouflage, also took the slain officer’s AK-47.

It went on to say that the hoodlums got into the quarry “after a worker accidentally allowed a security breach at the gate”.

He revealed that Jonathan Towuru, the AIG in command of the zone, has ordered a thorough search for the armed attackers, pledging that they will be brought to justice.

“The Police hereby appealed to the people to be on the lookout and provide any useful information that will lead to the arrest of the perpetrators,” he told us.
