Corruption Scandal Rocks Nigerian UK Community Leadership.
President of Nigerian Community in the UK via Twitter (X), Mr. Benjamin Kuti aka Oluomo of Derby, has announced his resignation as a leader of the community.
The page has over 75,000 Nigerians who live in different parts of the UK. They also come to physically meet and celebrate together.
Kuti was joined by other group heads in disclosing their plans to vacate their offices.
These included DHK Rullah and Idris Ayinde.
Accusations
Nigerians in the Twitter Community have alleged that there are financial irregularities in the running of the community and they should be called to account by the leaders.
According to them, the expenditure moved from £9,440.41 in 2023 up to £68,224.11 in 2024.
In the balance posted, the community realised £36,035.55 in 2023 and £2,997.00 in sponsorship/partnership and donations in 2024.
It spent £7,225.65 for a party at the end of the year in 2023 and £5,061.00 for 2024. It quoted community support/donations as £5,350.00 for 2023, while it stated the same amount at £813.65 for 2024.
Most of the differences, thus, further pushed the members to question the authenticity of the account balance.
For instance, one Ola Dayo asked on X, “How did expenditure go from £9,440.41 in 2023 to £68,224.11 in 2024?”
The member added: “Why is there a 2023 December end-of-year party expenditure in the 2024 account?”
He also called to account other administrative expenses stated therein.
An equally disgruntled member, Rire, demanded that the community account on X be deleted.
Resignation of Leaders
Oluomo of Derby, who formed the group, and other leaders wrote on Thursday about the decision to tender resignation through their respective X pages.
