Many villagers living in Silame Local Government Area of Sokoto State have been feared dead after a fighter jet misses its target to bomb the village community.
The fighter jet is said to have been targeting the Lakurawa terrorist group. The incident was said to have happened in the early hours of Christmas Day.
Malam Yahya, a resident of Silame LGA, said the communities largely affected were Gidan Sama and Rumtuwa. He said the two villages were located close to Surame Forest identified as another hideout of Lakurawa and other bandits.
Silame’s Local Government Chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Muhammad Daftarana, said, “The villagers were sitting peacefully when the bombs started dropping on the communities. They were innocent and peace-loving people who had no any criminal record.
“It was early for me to confirm the number of people either killed or injured because we are still assessing the development.”
