The State Judiciary and the Kwara State Ministry of Social Development have revealed collaboration to employ legal methods to purge the state of social ills such child labor, hawking, street begging, and abuse.
During her formal visit to the office of Justice Abiodun Ayodele Adebara, the state’s chief judge, at the High Court of Justice in the state capital of Ilorin, Mariam Nnafatima Imam, the Commissioner for Social Development, made this announcement.
According to Imam, the Ministry of Social Development is dedicated to making sure that the state is safe for all citizens by promoting the betterment of the underprivileged and eliminating social vices.
She added that although a lot of work is regularly done to stop street begging, hawking, and other social vices, the offenders continue to commit the same crimes, thus little progress has been accomplished.

Imam stated that the greatest way to prevent the threat of street begging is to use the legal system, where criminals are prosecuted and punished or fined severely right away to deter future offenders. This necessitates collaboration with the state judiciary.
The commissioner reiterated Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq’s unwavering commitment to ensuring everyone’s safety and wellbeing, with a particular focus on children, vulnerable populations, and those state citizens who are less fortunate.
She also highlighted to the Chief Judge that in order to address some of the societal vices through traditional institutions, it is necessary to appropriately include the state’s traditional rulers.
The Chief Judge, Justice Adebara, commended Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq’s outstanding leadership and tireless efforts to ensure social justice and equity in the state during his remarks.

Justice Adebara also complimented the commissioner for her proactiveness and insight in ensuring that the Ministry of Social Development is taking the lead in achieving social responsibility and uplifting the disadvantaged residents of the state.
He said that in order to end street begging, hawking, and other social vices in the state, the state judiciary would work with the ministry to develop strategic action plans and carry out policies and programs.
