Owoade Oba Abimbola has been crowned Oyo’s 46th Alaafin. The coronation comes as he succeeds Oba Lamidi Adeyemi who died on April 22, 2022, at the age of 83.
The Governor’s Office in the state capital of Ibadan hosted a presentation of the personnel and instruments of office to Oba Owoade on Monday, January 13.

He completed the mandatory 21-day traditional rites known as Oro Ipebi last Saturday, March 29.
Following his completion of the compulsory requirements, the Owoade Oba Abimbola coronation ceremony took place at Oyo’s Oliveth Baptist High School today.
At the coronation were notable Nigerian dignitaries led by Governor Seyi Makinde. Among them are Oba Ghandi Olaoye, the Soun of Ogbomoso; Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife; and Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, the Olubadan of Ibadan.

High Chief Oyewale previously disclosed to Press men at the coronation venue, Olivet High School in Oyo, that the race for the Alaafin throne is similar to an election and that conflicts of interest are likely to arise.
But he made it clear that “Oyo Mesi (kingmakers) is no longer in crisis.” There are many different interests, and one of them will be selected whenever a new king is to be established.
In his words, “The moment Alaafin has been selected, all members of the council will come together.”
