People are outraged over the FG’s proposal of N3,000 toll gate fees for the Lagos-Calabar Coastal road.
Outrage has erupted over the Federal Government’s proposal to impose a N3,000 toll at each gate along the Lagos-Calabar coastal road upon its completion. Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, confirmed the plan during a Channels Television program. Various groups including PDP’s Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, NLC, LP, CUPP, PANDEF, and transport operators have criticized the move. Umahi defended the toll, stating it would recoup costs in 15 years, and assured minimal impact on Landmark Beach Resort. However, concerns persist over transparency, potential exploitation, and diversion of resources from critical projects like the East-West highway. The proposed toll, if implemented, could significantly raise transport fares, further burdening citizens already grappling with economic challenges.
