BREAKING: Tension as fire guts FCT Minister of State’s residence.

On Sunday, February 25, 2024, tension gripped the vicinity as a fire ravaged the private residence of Mariya Mahmoud, the Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Situated at No. 9, Justice Roseline Ukeji Close, Asokoro, the house was entirely consumed by the flames, leaving nothing salvageable. Mr. Austine Elemue, the minister’s media aide, confirmed the incident, stating that investigations into the cause of the fire were underway.

Security operatives and fire fighter are at the scene of the incident.

Reacting to the fire incident, Abiola Adebayo, the acting director of the FCT Fire Service, stated that the first floor of the building was completely razed by the fire.

Adebayo remarked, “Upon arrival, we observed that the upper floor was fully engulfed in flames. Our immediate focus was to contain the fire from spreading to the ground floor and nearby buildings. Fortunately, there were no casualties.”

On Sunday afternoon, a devastating fire completely destroyed the private residence of Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, the Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Located at No. 9, Justice Roseline Ukeje Close, Asokoro district of Abuja, the building was left in ruins, with nothing salvaged. Reports indicate that response to the fire was slow. While no official statement has been issued, Mr. Austine Elemue, the minister’s Media Aide, confirmed the incident, stating that investigations into the cause of the fire were underway.

Who is Dr Mariya Mahmoud.

Mariya Mahmoud Bunkure, born on January 15, 1978, in Bunkure town, Kano State, had her early education at Bunkure Primary School and Arabic Secondary School Tudun Wadan Dankade for her Junior Secondary School. She completed her secondary education at Government Girls Science Secondary School Garko. Pursuing further studies, she attended the College of Art and Remedial Studies, Kano State, for her IJMB.

Her exceptional performance allowed her to begin her university education from Level 200 at Bayero University Kano, where she graduated with a degree in medicine in 2005.

She then completed her housejob at Murtala Specialist Hospital, Kano, and her Youth Service at the National Meteorological Center in Plateau State. Following her NYSC, she pursued her Residency at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, eventually becoming a member of the West African College Of Physicians and a consultant family physician.

On November 5, 2019, she was appointed as the Honorable Commissioner for the Ministry Of Higher Education in Kano State.
