How policies were buried in Nigeria—Obasanjo

Over the weekend, Obasanjo gave a speech at the Obasanjo Space Centre in Lugbe, Abuja, which hosted the 8th Brigadier General Michael Agu (rted) annual distinguished lecture and awards ceremony.

He stated that having policies and making statements are insufficient for leaders. Nigeria is not lacking in policies. Nigeria has regrettably turned into a cemetery for policies that have never been carried out.

People that make progress do so by acting on their goals rather than just wanting to. Two steps forward and three steps backward are not what they do.

We are regrettably acting in this manner in every sphere of our country’s life. And we will not advance as long as we continue in this manner. Let’s only carry those we are able to. We can’t be a master of nothing and a jack of all trades. He said that more than 100 Nigerian engineers were sent to China for training in various fields and specializations when his administration founded the National Space Research and Development Agency, or NASRDA.

According to him, his administration had plans for China to launch its first satellite into space, Nigeria to launch a second satellite in partnership with China, and Nigeria to launch a third satellite entirely Nigerian.

Dr. Mathew Adepoju

The Director General of NARSDA, had earlier in his speech declared that President Bola Tinubu had given his approval for Nigeria to establish four more satellites.

In a different development

Obasanjo revealed that he is about 25% deaf and that he is providing hearing aids to thousands of deaf individuals nationwide.Speaking in Bauchi, the former president gave 2,000 individuals who had hearing problems hearing aids. According to him, a lot of people are deaf without realizing it until a medical examination reveals their hearing ability. During a trip overseas, I discovered that I was 25% deaf. When I first couldn’t hear someone clearly, I didn’t believe. Since no one is completely healthy, stigma is not a problem. Everybody has some kind of illness,” he stated.
He went on to say that he would be directing the distribution of more than 10,000 hearing aids impoverished individuals in the the Northeast, beginning from Bauchi State approximately 2,000 persons would benefit.
