Desmond Elliot refutes allegations against him being gay
Nollywood star and politician Desmond Elliot recently set the record straight on rumors about his sexuality, which have been swirling online.
In an interview, Elliot responded to accusations claiming he was gay, calling the rumors “baseless” and explaining why he initially ignored them. He didn’t feel the need to address something that neither added to nor took away from his life.
“Why should I respond to allegations that don’t change my life in any way?” he questioned. “It’s just an opinion, and I don’t think I need to come out to confirm or deny it as long as I’m positively impacting people’s lives.”
Elliot took the opportunity to promote tolerance, emphasizing that while people are free to live as they wish within legal limits, respect for others is key. “If you identify as something, go ahead; it’s your choice within the law,” he said. “But people don’t have to accept it.
As for me, I’m straight… you won’t find anyone straighter than me.” He added that if others wanted to enjoy the spotlight through rumors and publicity, that was their choice, but it wasn’t something that concerned him.
The actor’s statement comes after a Nigerian blog published a list alleging certain male Nigerian celebrities, including Elliot, were gay. This list stirred up reactions across social media, with fans discussing and debating the claims.
However, most of the men listed chose to remain silent, preferring not to engage with the rumors. Elliot’s response addressed the accusations directly and with a bit of humor, signaling he wouldn’t be dragged into unnecessary drama.
He encouraged others to “do you,” but to keep respect and consideration for their neighbors in mind. His comments have sparked discussions on social media about celebrity privacy, public opinions, and personal boundaries.
