President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has surprised many by appointing Daniel Bwala, a former aide to Atiku Abubakar, as his Special Adviser on Public Communications and Media.
The announcement was made on Wednesday by Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy.
Bwala, a lawyer and public affairs analyst, played a key role in Atiku’s 2023 presidential campaign under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). After the election, which Atiku lost to Tinubu, Bwala shifted his allegiance.
Bwala’s decision to back Tinubu’s administration stirred up mixed reactions, especially after his statement that he would return to the APC if it meant supporting the president’s success.
Earlier this year, Bwala openly expressed his willingness to serve Tinubu in any capacity. Despite speculation about his motives, Bwala maintained that his support for the administration wasn’t about securing an appointment. His recent visit to the president sealed his commitment to helping Tinubu’s government thrive.
Alongside Bwala’s appointment, Tinubu also announced key leadership roles for three major agencies. Adebowale Adedokun has been named Director-General (DG) of the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP).
With a background as the bureau’s Director of Research and Strategic Planning, Adedokun brings considerable expertise to his new role.
Olawale Olopade is the new DG of the National Sports Commission (NSC). As a seasoned sports administrator, Olopade previously served as Ogun State’s Commissioner for Youth and Sports and chaired the 2024 National Sports Festival organizing committee. His extensive experience is expected to revamp Nigeria’s sports sector.
Dr. Abisoye Fagade, founder and managing director of Sodium Brand Solutions, has been appointed DG of the National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism. With a strong background in marketing and communication, Fagade aims to boost the tourism industry.
The president urged all newly appointed officials to perform their duties with dedication, patriotism, and excellence. Tinubu’s choices have sparked discussions about loyalty, strategic governance, and the blend of expertise and politics in his administration.
As Nigerians watch closely, expectations for these appointees remain high, with the hope that their contributions will drive national progress.
