Billionaire Kidnapper Evans Turns to God, Wants Lighter Sentence
Emefo Etudo, the attorney representing the billionaire kidnap kingpin, Chukwudimeme Onwuamadike, commonly known as Evans, has stated that his client has undergone significant reform and is now remorseful.
Etudo revealed that Evans’s transformation was influenced by the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) and the Nigerian Federal Government.
While speaking to a Lagos High Court in Ikeja, the lawyer mentioned that Evans has renounced his criminal behavior and has sought clemency from the Lagos State Government.
This statement came after Evans entered a not guilty plea to an amended five-count indictment that includes charges of murder, attempted murder, and conspiracy to commit kidnapping.
On Wednesday, during proceedings before Justice Adenike Coker, Etudo highlighted that despite the fresh charges and his client’s plea, he has reached out to the Lagos State Government via the Attorney-General’s office to negotiate a plea deal.
He stated, “Our primary focus in this case is the plea bargain we have proposed to the state government. My client has genuinely repented.”
“He was once a young man entangled in crime, but now he feels remorse. Currently, he is a second-year student at the National Open University.”
“In fact, while in prison, he achieved A1 grades in all his NECO subjects. This was facilitated by a scholarship provided by the Federal Government.”
“My lord, we have requested that the Lagos State government allow him to visit schools across the state to warn young people about the perils of criminal activities.”
Speaking to reporters following the court session, Etudo remarked, “My client has truly changed. His transformation has been remarkable. The RCCG and the Federal Government, which awarded him a scholarship to pursue his education, were pivotal in this reformation.”
