On Friday, March 21st, 2025, Nigeria’s Super Eagles will go against the Amavubi of Rwanda in what is deemed a must-win match.
The win against the Rwandan team will change Nigeria’s Super Eagles’ fortunes for the better in their campaign bid for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, which will be held by joint hosts of the United States of America, Mexico, and Canada.

Nigeria is currently without a win in Group C; they have 3 draws with Zimbabwe (1-1), Lesotho (1-1), South Africa (1-1), and a loss to Benin (1-0). They are sitting in the 5th position with 3 points, while Rwanda, South Africa, and Benin occupy the top three spots in the table with 7 points each.
The match against Rwanda will be Eric Chelle’s first test as the new Nigeria’s Super Eagles manager after he was appointed by the Nigeria Football Federation earlier in January. He has since gone on to ensure that the Nigerian senior football team clinches the 2026 World Cup ticket.
Ahmed Musa, Kano Pillars captain, was one of the team members recalled by Eric Chelle for Nigeria’s Super Eagles match against Rwanda.
In a media chat with reporters in Ilorin ahead of the Kano Pillars league clash with Kwara United over the weekend, Musa emphasized that the match against Rwanda is an important must-win match.

Musa said, “The important game is Rwanda.”
“If we can get the three points from that match, it’s going to be a turning point for us. But it is not just a job for the Super Eagles alone.
“Every Nigerian must be involved because we need their support.”

His recall back to the team is no surprise, as he has been in scintillating form for Kano Pillars ever since joining them in October 2024 on short-term contracts for the 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League.
Nigeria’s Super Eagles face the Warriors of Zimbabwe at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, four days after the game with Rwanda.
