Former lawmaker, Dino Melaye, has criticized Peter Obi over his decision to leave the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Obi, alongside his prospective running mate Rabiu Kwankwaso, recently exited the ADC amid ongoing internal disputes and legal battles, opting instead to join the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC).
Their move has since triggered a wave of defections from the ADC to the NDC as political alignments continue to shift.
Reacting in a statement on Wednesday, Dino Melaye accused Obi of avoiding competitive primary elections, suggesting that he prefers less challenging political environments.
According to him, Obi has consistently benefited from direct nominations rather than contesting primaries.
“Peter Obi walked away from a difficult situation. If he cannot handle internal party challenges, how does he intend to manage the complexities of governing Nigeria?” he said.
Dino Melaye further alleged that Obi tends to operate in “comfortable conditions” rather than engaging in more demanding political contests.
He also referenced Obi’s past political journey, claiming that he secured party tickets without going through primary elections at different stages of his career.
In addition, Dino Melaye questioned Obi’s latest move to the NDC, alleging that the platform may not offer the kind of competitive process he has avoided.
The criticism comes as political realignments continue ahead of the 2027 elections, with parties and key figures repositioning for future contests.
