Road to 2027 Election: Blood, Tears and Innocent Lives Paying Costly Price

With the 2027 election less than nine months away, a startling surge in kidnappings and murders suggest that Nigeria is increasingly under siege.

Tragically, five brave soldiers and three members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) paid the ultimate price on Friday morning while successfully repelling a fierce Boko Haram assault on Forward Operating Base (FOB) Mandaragirau, under the 25 Brigade of Sector 2 in Borno State.

Meanwhile, the nation anxiously awaits the safe release of the students and teachers whom gunmen abducted from their schools in Oyo and Ondo states back on May 15, 2026.

Adding to the escalating crisis, a gang of armed robbers violently stormed the Igbosi Community along Imeri Road in Idogun, Ose Local Council of Ondo State, on that same Friday. During the rampage, the criminals destroyed multiple houses and abducted a nine-year-old boy after his father narrowly fled the scene to find safety.

Similarly, kidnappers abducted and killed four residents and a vigilante member in communities in Kubwa axis of  Abuja.

The incidents of abduction, killings and bandit attacks have grossly sky rocketed since last year. In the last quarter of 2025 alone, students were kidnapped from school in Niger state and other reported cases of worshippers abdcted from worship places.
Consequently, the ongoing detention of these teachers and students has sparked furious protests across various regions of the nation. During the demonstrations, furious citizens demanded the immediate release of the abductees. At the same time, some protesters openly called for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s resignation
Government’s misplaced priorities
Despite public outrage and a ripple effect of the insecurity, the APC led administration appears to me largely focused on securing victory in the 2027 election.
Recall that the Oyo school abduction occurred around the same time as the APC primaries however, three weeks has now passed with no tangible result over their release.
PFN President, Bishop Francis Wale Oke
In a recent interview with OLUSEYE OJO, Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) president Bishop Wale Oke stated that Nigeria’s escalating insecurity, characterised by banditry and terrorism cannot be solved by cold statistics or routine military updates. He urged the government to deploy its focus on providing security rather than winning elections.
