Veteran Nollywood actress Toyin Adewale, mother of singer Mayorkun, has revealed that she initially believed Davido was a scammer when he first reached out to her son.
Speaking during an appearance on the Talk to B podcast on Saturday, the actress recounted how Mayorkun’s journey to fame began after a music cover he posted online went viral.
According to her, Davido sent Mayorkun a direct message on social media after seeing the viral cover, but the family initially doubted the authenticity of the message.
“After the cover he did went viral, he was with his brother when Davido sent a message, but we thought it was a scammer,” she said.
Adewale explained that Davido later called Mayorkun personally, which convinced them the message was genuine.
She recalled that the singer invited Mayorkun to meet him after returning from a trip and also gifted him and his brother money and other items during their first meeting.
Although she admitted being worried at first because she did not know much about Davido at the time, she said the meeting eventually marked the beginning of Mayorkun’s rise in the music industry.
According to her, Mayorkun later recorded the hit song “Eleko” with Davido and eventually moved in with him.
She also praised Davido for being respectful and supportive, noting that she later visited their residence to see where her son was staying.
