Bashir Ahmad, former media aide to late President Muhammadu Buhari, has said that Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) vice-presidential candidate, Rabi’u Kwankwaso, cannot comfortably remain in any political party where he does not have full control.
Bashir Ahmad made the comment in a post on his verified X handle on Monday.
Bashir Ahmad was reacting to the ongoing crisis within the NDC in the North West, particularly in Kano State, where some candidates were recently replaced by the party.
The replacement was reportedly carried out to enforce a power-sharing agreement between factions of the Kwankwasiyya Movement ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Sharing his opinion, Ahmad wrote, “I have told many people that Senator Kwankwaso cannot comfortably remain in any political party where he does not enjoy total control, particularly over the Kano State party structure.”
Bashir Ahmad added that this was one of the reasons Kwankwaso left the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2018, despite what he described as a lack of stronger political alternatives at the time.
“For Kwankwaso, maintaining complete dominance over the party machinery in Kano has always been a non-negotiable priority,” he said.
