The Federal Government, through the Minister of Power, has announced plans to add 4000MW by 2026.
Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, announced that the Federal Government has committed to improving the nation’s power sector by adding an additional 4000MW on or before the end of 2026.
This was contained in a statement released to the media by Bola Tunji, the Special Adviser on Strategic Communications and Media Relations to the minister.
The minister also disclosed that the federal government has already engaged renowned Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) companies that will work together under the strategic direction of the president to achieve this goal.
Adelabu said, “The strategic decisions aim to increase grid capacity by an additional 4,000MW by the end of 2026, with an aspirational target of an additional 2,000MW, as directed by the Economic Management Team in 2024.
”Noteworthy is the fact that the implementation of the PPI commenced with the installation and inauguration of 10 power transformers and 10 mobile substations across the country under the Pilot Phase of the PPI, which was manufactured and delivered in October 2023.”
He also stated that the FG is also implementing the Siemens Power Project, also known as the Presidential Power Initiative (PPI), which will improve electricity supply to key areas in the economy.
He said, “The inception of the present administration in 2023 brought about renewed vigor to the Siemens Power Project as an accelerated contract was signed to ensure visible progress in the project.”
“No significant progress was made on the project until the present administration came into office.
“There is no doubt that the Siemens project has witnessed significant improvements since the inauguration of this administration.”
The statement further emphasized that 10 transformers and 10 mobile substations were installed across the country as part of the pilot phase of the Presidential Power Initiative (PPI). This was regarded as the first phase and was completed in October 2023.
In addition, it stated that the FG had started the activities required for the PPI’s main phase in 2024. These activities are meant to provide a foundation for a bigger implementation of the main phase. This development is to enhance electricity supply to industrial clusters, businesses, universities, and residential areas.
