3-Year-Old Stabbed to Death by Babysitter while Dad was at
A babysitter has been charged with fatally stabbing a 3-year-old girl in Las Vegas while the father was at work.
On the morning of Wednesday, March 26, at approximately 3:36 a.m. local, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police (LVMPD) stated that they responded to a stabbing at 4200 Channel 10 Drive.
Upon arrival, the officers found a young female inside the apartment with alleged stab wounds. Officers rendered life-saving measures until medical crew arrived. The juvenile was transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead,” the statement added.
Police said Marketta Phillips, 41, was taken into custody “having been located near the scene.”
Identified by the Clark County Office of the Coroner/Medical Examiner, the victim on this case was 3-year-old Journei Ross; her cause of death was “multiple stab wounds.”
“Through the course of investigation homicide detectives learned Phillips was babysitting the victim while the father was at work,” the police release continued. “At some point, Phillips stabbed the victim and then fled the area when the father arrived from work.”

As for the suspect, police booked her at the Clark County Detention Center for Open Murder with a Deadly Weapon. She had her rear guard appearance on Thursday, March 27.
The arrest report said her father returned home to find Phillips “covered in blood surrounded by multiple knives on the kitchen floor.”
The father had had an on-and-off relationship with Phillips, and she has been living at the apartment according to her for the last year,” the report remarked, according to the station.
According to KVVU, police found three sheets of paper at the scene covered with red marker notes saying, “See what happens when you [mess] with people’s lives,” and “Now we both have nothing.”
The story of that tragic night is told by Ross to reporters, who learned he had been working on the night of March 25 while Phillips cared for his daughter, a job she had done “numerous times” before. Upon arriving home shortly after 3 a.m. the next morning, he saw Phillips with blood on her arms and immediately went to check on his daughter.
In a harrowing 911 plea acquired by CBS affiliate KLAS, Ross could be heard crying, “You killed my [expletive] child!” and “My baby is not breathing. My baby just bled all over the goddamn bed. What the f**k did you do?”

Ross told KTNV he had been living with Phillips for a year, saying, “I didn’t know she was a crazy case, you know?”
Ross shared custody of Journei with Whitson, who told reporters she had never met Phillips until seeing her in the courtroom on Thursday, March 27.
Whitson said: “I don’t know this woman. Today was literally the first day I’ve ever seen this woman in my life. This is crazy, she took my baby.”
Phillips remains incarcerated in the Clark County Detention Center without bail; her next court date is scheduled for April 1.
