Kogi State’s former governor, Yahaya Bello, has surrendered himself to the office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to be questioned over his alleged misappropriation of funds.
He arrived at the EFCC office Tuesday morning with his team of highly paid lawyers backing him up.
Yahaya’s visit to the commission comes after the Supreme Court ruled against the state’s argument on the anti-graft agency’s constitutionality.
Additionally, it was learned that Bello and his attorneys drove themselves to the EFCC office in a black Hilux.
Although there have been rumors that Yahaya Bello was planning to attend the EFCC, the former governor’s media representatives have not responded to questions about the matter.
Recall that the EFCC requested an adjournment to tomorrow (November 27) in the new case it instituted against Bello at the most recent hearing on the new charges brought against the former governor, which was held on November 14 before Justice Maryanne Anenih of the Federal Capital Territory High Court Maitama in Abuja. The EFCC claimed that the 30-day window for the previously issued summons was still open.
However, the EFCC requested an extension for the first defendant to appear in court and accepted his co-defendants, Abdulsalami Hudu and Umar Oricha, to administrative bail.
