In his much-awaited bout with Jake Paul, Mike Tyson revealed the strange reason he kept chomping down on his boxing gloves.
Announcer Ariel Helwani questioned Tyson about the odd performance shortly after the fight, which Paul won easily with scores of 80-72, 79-73, and 79-73 according to the final judge. “The broadcasting team was debating what you were doing with your gloves, was it a mouth piece issue or were you just biting on your glove,” he stated.
Tyson responded by saying, “I have a habit of biting my gloves when I fight,” and then went on to say, “I have a biting fixation.”
Tyson came out firing in the first round of Friday’s fight, like he did during much of his illustrious career, ostensibly to allay worries about his age. The 70,000 people at AT&T Stadium started yelling “Mike” cheers when the 58-year-old knocked Paul back with a left jab and an overhand right.
Nevertheless, Father Time quickly caught up to Tyson. After used up most of his energy in the first minute of the fight, he seemed to be out of steam by the second round. “The Baddest Man on the Planet” appeared to be in excruciating pain after Paul hit his opponent with multiple body strikes, as he grimaced and bit his gloves.
Thousands of perplexed spectators took to social media to ask why Tyson was constantly biting down on his gloves that were held in front of his face rather than punching Paul. Tony Bellew, a former boxer, quickly responded, explaining the gesture by claiming it was a result of his agony. He wrote, “He’s biting his glove because he’s in pain!” on X.
