Enwukwe: Nigeria’s Survival Hinges on Sincere Leadership.
A former Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning in Rivers State, Chief Mike Ejims Enwukwe, emphasized the critical need for governance to focus on human-capital development, a priority under the current administration led by Governor Siminalayi Fubara. Chief Enwukwe, who also served as the Sole Administrator of Risonpalm Limited, pointed out that Nigeria’s persistent poverty is largely due to widespread dishonesty and insincerity among the ruling class.
Speaking in Port Harcourt during the funeral of his late mother, Deaconess Roseline Enwukwe, Chief Enwukwe highlighted that the lack of honesty and sincerity among leaders has significantly hampered the nation’s economic growth. He described his mother as a peaceful and honest woman, lamenting that these virtues are sorely lacking in many of Nigeria’s leaders. He argued that for the nation to progress, leaders must embrace these virtues and abandon the politics of treachery.
Chief Enwukwe promised to uphold his mother’s legacy of honesty and hard work. He criticized the blatant corruption in political parties and public offices, citing instances where public funds disappear under dubious circumstances. “Are you not seeing what is happening in political parties, public offices, and ministries, where snake swallow money? Money developing legs? You see people going home with billions of naira, while fellow citizens wallow in penury?” he asked, stressing the need for explanations and accountability.
