Popular Nigerian skit maker and actor, Adebowale ‘Debo’ Adedayo, better known as Mr Macaroni, is making headlines after mocking President Tinubu in his latest comedy with colleague Otunba Korex.
Mr Macaroni, known for his sharp wit and fearless commentary on societal issues, shared a snippet of his new skit on Instagram, addressing Nigeria’s reintroduced national anthem.
On May 23, 2024, the National Assembly passed a bill to replace “Arise, O Compatriots” with “Nigeria, We Hail Thee,” which President Bola Tinubu signed into law on May 29, 2024. The lyrics of the new anthem were penned by Lillian Jean Williams, a British expatriate during Nigeria’s independence, and the music was composed by Frances Berda.
In the skit, Mr Macaroni humorously mocked the government’s focus on changing the anthem instead of addressing pressing issues like hunger and poverty. The video shows him and Otunba Korex engaging in a humorous dialogue, sarcastically suggesting that singing the anthem might magically solve hunger, sparking online reactions.
