Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command have arrested Emmanuel Odiniya, the father of former Big Brother Naija star Ilebaye Odiniya, over alleged domestic violence.
The incident came to public attention after the reality TV personality cried out for help during an Instagram Live session on Friday night. A viral video circulating online showed moments of the alleged assault, sparking widespread concern among Nigerians.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer of the FCT Command, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed in a statement on Saturday that the victim was rescued and taken to the hospital for treatment following the distress call.
According to the statement, the police received a report around 12:00 a.m. from Royal Anchor Estate in Wuye, Abuja, about an ongoing physical assault involving Ms. Ilebaye Odiniya Emmanuel and her father, Hon. Emmanuel Odiniya.
The statement added that officers from the Wuye Division, alongside operatives from the Department of Operations of the FCT Police Command, were immediately deployed to the scene, while the Command’s spokesperson monitored the operation.
Police said the residence gate was initially locked, but officers eventually gained access around 2:30 a.m. Ilebaye, who reportedly sustained visible bruises, was rescued alongside her brothers and taken to NNPC Hospital in Abuja for medical attention.
Emmanuel Odiniya is currently in police custody as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
