Speed Darlington is suing the IGP of Police for N300 million for violating his fundamental human rights.
Speed Darlington has filed a lawsuit against IGP Kayode Egbetokun, the Inspector General of Police, for his unlawful detention at the hands of the police.
Darlington was granted bail by the Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday, December 23, 2024, but he was still being detained by the Nigerian police.
The police were accused of detaining Speed Darlington because of alleged huge sums paid by superstar singer Burna Boy.
However, on Monday, January 6, 2025, the court mandated that the police release Speed Darlington.
The embattled singer is now suing the police IGP for violating his fundamental human rights. The suit is valued at N300 million. On Monday, the Federal High Court in Abuja fixed January 13 to hear the singer’s fundamental rights enforcement suit against the police.
This decision was reached as Speed’s lawyer, Abubakar Marshal requested for an adjournment to allow Garba Audu, the police lawyer to review and respond to the suit.
