Nigerian-born UFC star Israel Adesanya has placed a $10,000 bet on his compatriot, Anthony Joshua, ahead of Joshua’s IBF heavyweight title fight against Daniel Dubois. The fight, set for September 21, 2024, at Wembley Stadium in England, promises to be a thrilling all-British showdown, with 96,000 fans expected to pack the iconic venue.
For Dubois, this will be his first fight at England’s national stadium, adding pressure as he enters unfamiliar territory against the more seasoned Joshua, who has fought there several times. The 26-year-old Dubois will be supported by his trainer, Don Charles, as he looks to make a statement in one of the biggest fights of his career.
Adesanya, known for his confident and bold personality inside and outside the octagon, shared his support for Joshua on Instagram. On Friday, the UFC middleweight posted a snapshot of his wager placed on September 17, 2024, captioned with, “ÒGÚN‼ This fight got beef…grab the #stake sauce,” alongside the bet slip labeled “Dubois, Daniel – Joshua, Anthony.” Adesanya’s bet is on Joshua to win the fight between the 10th and 12th rounds, with a potential payout of $50,000 if his prediction proves correct.
Dubois, however, is unfazed by Adesanya’s show of support for Joshua. The 26-year-old has been vocal about his intentions, confidently declaring his aim to knock out the two-time former unified world heavyweight champion. “I aim to knock him out. That’s the program. That’s the mindset; that’s the intention coming into this fight,” Dubois told Sky Sports. “I’m going to focus my whole life on destroying him and just being a good destroyer, a good conqueror. Don’t wait. Go out there. Smash him.”
Joshua, 33, enters the fight with momentum, having won his last four bouts, including a knockout victory over former UFC champion Francis Ngannou. Despite Dubois’ bold declarations, Joshua’s experience and recent form make him the favorite in what promises to be an electrifying battle in front of a packed Wembley Stadium crowd.
As anticipation builds, fans and fighters alike are eagerly waiting to see if Joshua will deliver as Adesanya predicts or if Dubois will fulfill his promise of handing Joshua a rare knockout defeat.
