Citing widespread allegations of vote-rigging, African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Mohammed Hayatu-Deen has said he would not attend the announcement of the party’s presidential primary results.

Hayatu-Deen voiced worry about claims of vote violations from all throughout the nation in a message posted on his X Twitter on Tuesday.

The ADC aspirant also noted that he witnessed some of the incidents.

Taking to his official X account he said, “I will not be attending the announcement of the ADC Presidential Election Results today. I am concerned by reports from across the country of widespread vote rigging, some of which I myself observed, and will therefore be taking advice on my next steps.”

Meanwhile, the announcement comes amid an intense contest for the ADC presidential ticket involving Hayatu-Deen, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and former Minister of Transportation and ex-Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi.

Furthermore, Abuja will host the collation exercise for the ADC presidential primary, with results expected from across the country.

BACKSTORY…

Ahead of Monday’s national presidential primary, the ADC also urged candidates, party officials, delegates, and members to remain peaceful and uphold party unity.

Bolaji Abdullahi, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, called the exercise a turning point for the ADC and Nigerians looking for a legitimate political option in a statement released in Abuja on Sunday.

He said the party remained committed to internal democracy and transparent leadership selection.

He said, “The ADC remains proud to stand today as the only truly democratic party in Nigeria because it is the only political party whose choice of presidential candidate is determined through open primaries.”

Additionally, the party emphasised that candidates’ and party members’ behaviour during the exercise will mirror the leadership culture the ADC aims to foster.
