N110B Scandal: Yahaya Bello Lands in Kuje Prison
Nigerians, especially the people of Kogi state, have been thrown into jubilation, as the White Lion himself, Yahaya Bello, has been remanded in Kuje Correctional Centre pending a hearing on his bail application.
The trial Judge Maryann Anenih adjourned the N110 billion alleged money laundering case brought against him by the EFCC on January 29 and 30 then February 25 and 27. In the early hours of today Tuesday, Justice Maryanne Anenih found fault in the competence of Bello’s bail application and held that it was filed prematurely.
Yahaya Bello’s bail application was filed on Novemeber 22 before he was arrested on November 26 and arraigned on November 27
Bello’s co-defendents – Umar Oricha and Abdulsalami Hudu were granted bail of N300m with two sureties in like sum.
The judge said the sureties must have property worth the said amount within the court’s jurisdiction. She then adjourned further proceedings till January 29 next year.
