The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has transferred former Minister of Power Saleh Mamman to the Nigerian Correctional Centre in Kuje, Abuja, after a Federal High Court in Abuja ordered the commencement of his 75-year prison sentence.

Meanwhile, Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Maitama issued the ruling on Tuesday after the EFCC brought Mamman before the court.

According to EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale, the proceedings also included the commission’s request for the forfeiture of five additional properties allegedly linked to the former minister.

Meanwhile, Oyedepo, the Federation’s Director of Public Prosecution and lead counsel, told the court that the motion dated May 25, 2026, asked for an order to confiscate the properties.

In addition, Shamsudeen Mohammed, who described himself as Mamman’s relative, told the court during the proceedings that the former minister took a taxi from Abuja to Kaduna State shortly after his conviction and sentencing.

Furthermore, Mohammed said he did not know the owner of the flat in Rigasa, Kaduna, where Mamman was allegedly hiding.

Although Mamman told the court that he stayed away from the proceedings because of ill health, Justice Omotosho however informed Mamman that his prison term would commence immediately after the proceedings.

He said, “The sentence starts to run from today. You were in Abuja when the judgment was passed and when the sentence was passed. You left alone in a taxi for Kaduna. I have done my work. I just have to inform you because today is the commencement of your sentence.”

BACKSTORY…

Recall that the federal high court in Abuja earlier sentenced ex- minister of power, Saleh Mamman to 75 years in prison over corruption related to the hydroelectric power projects in Mambilla and Zungeru.

Justice James Omotosho handed down the sentence after convicting Mamman on all 12 counts filed against him by the EFCC.

Meanwhile, the trial judge ordered that Mamman serve the 75-year sentence consecutively. However, the former minister failed to appear in court.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) later traced and arrested Saleh Mamman at his alleged hideout in Kaduna.
