BACKSTORY…
This move by the wike-backed PDP faction coincides with moves by the Makinde faction selecting its own presidential candidate.
Recall that Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) earlier announced that it will screen former President Goodluck Jonathan as the party’s sole presidential candidate.
Following the announcement, chieftain of the PDP, Umar Sani, then disclosed that former President Goodluck Jonathan has already purchased a presidential nomination form ahead of the 2027 general election.
Shortly after this disclosure, Just yesterday May 26, a Federal High Court in Abuja formally cleared Jonathan to contest in the 2027 presidential election.
In a judgment delivered by Justice Peter Lifu on Tuesday, he upheld a N20 million fine against the lawyer, Johnmary Jideobi, who instituted the case.
In addition, the judge Lifu also held that the lawyer lacked the legal right to have instituted the suit, having not suffered any loss from his perceived Jonathan’s intention to run for the 2027 poll.
